Neidenburg — now Nidzica in northeastern Poland — issued this Notgeld piece during the plebiscite period that followed the Treaty of Versailles. The town sat within the zone subject to the July 1920 referendum on whether southern East Prussia would remain German or transfer to Poland. Local Notgeld from this period was often deliberately attractive, a quiet piece of soft propaganda aimed at reinforcing regional identity at a politically charged moment.
Flemming & Wiskott in Glogau were among the more prolific Notgeld printers of the early 1920s, handling commissions from dozens of municipalities across eastern Germany simultaneously.
