Orlamünde is a small town in Thuringia with a population that barely cracked a thousand in 1920, which makes its participation in the Kleingeldersatz wave of that year entirely typical of the postwar municipal emergency. The nationwide coin shortage following WWI prompted thousands of German towns — including many this size — to issue their own Notgeld, and Schneider & Co. in nearby Altenburg handled a significant volume of this regional small-denomination work.
