Schafstädt is a small town in the Saale district of Saxony-Anhalt, and its 1920 notgeld issue belongs to the vast wave of municipal emergency currency produced across Germany as the Reichsbank struggled to keep small-denomination coins in circulation during the inflationary spiral following the First World War.
