| Obverse description | Dark blue and tan letterpress note with a central vignette of the Herne municipal coat of arms — a tree above a divided shield — flanked by two large guilloche rosettes bearing the denomination numeral '10' in white. Ornate guilloche cornerpieces repeat the denomination '10 PFG.' at each corner, with the issuer name 'HERNE i. WESTF.' across the top and the date '1920' to either side of the arms. A text panel below the central vignette states the redemption obligation, beneath which appears the place and date of issue 'Herne i.W. d. 1.
