Beschrijving voorzijde Small-format Notgeld note issued by the municipality of Freiburg in Lower Silesia, bearing the denomination value of 10 Pfennig in a simple typeset layout. The face carries the issuing authority's name and the date of issue, framed within a plain border typical of emergency currency of the Weimar-era inflation period. Text inscriptions dominate the design, with minimal decorative ornamentation consistent with the utilitarian character of locally printed Notgeld.

Opmerkingen

Freiburg in Niederschlesien — not to be confused with the better-known Freiburg im Breisgau — issued this Notgeld note amid the coin shortage that gripped Germany after the First World War. Municipal and district authorities across the country were authorized to fill the gap left by hoarded and melted small coinage, producing thousands of locally printed emergency issues between roughly 1916 and 1922.

Lower Silesian Notgeld is now predominantly a collector's market; most of these small-denomination pieces never wore out in trade but were bought directly by the growing Notgeld collector hobby of the early 1920s, which ironically drove many towns to print far more than local commerce required.
