Santomischel — known today as Szamotuły in Poland — issued this note during the chaotic interregnum following the Greater Poland Uprising of late 1918 and early 1919, when German administrative control over the Poznań region was collapsing and Prussian municipality coffers were hemorrhaging small change. Hundreds of German towns issued Notgeld under exactly these conditions, but Santomischel sits at the geographic edge of the contested zone, making even mundane surviving examples of local documentary interest.

The official stamp substitutes for any formal security printing — a common workaround when no engraved press was available locally.
