| 表面の説明 | The obverse is printed in dark brown and ochre on a cream ground, with a decorative border of conifer branches and pine cones enclosing circular denomination medallions bearing '10' at each corner. The large Gothic-script denomination 'Pfennig' dominates the upper centre, flanked by two circular cartouches with the numeral '10', while a stylised industrial lamp vignette appears at the top centre above the issuer name 'Gemeinde Hermsdorf S.A.' in bold blackletter. The lower portion carries a two-column letterpress legal text governing redemption conditions and penalties for counterfeiting, with a small ladder vignette centred at the foot, all set against a foliate arabesque underprint. |

Hermsdorf, in the former duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, issued this Notgeld note in 1919 as the Weimar Republic's early months produced a near-total collapse in small-change availability. The 1918 armistice and subsequent political upheaval had so disrupted coin production and distribution that thousands of German municipalities — many of them tiny — printed their own emergency fractional notes just to keep local commerce moving. Hermsdorf was one of the smaller issuers; its series attracted little collector attention at the time and was redeemed quickly once Reichsbank subsidiary notes restored liquidity.
