Additional information

This piece belongs to a long-running Mexican mint series commemorating the pre-Columbian and colonial heritage of individual states, each issued as a numbered proof in the program begun in 1992. Yucatán's inclusion reflects the peninsula's distinct political history — it declared independence from Mexico twice, in 1841 and again in 1845, and only formally rejoined under considerable federal pressure.

The .999 fine standard, rather than the more common .925, was adopted for this series specifically to appeal to bullion-oriented collectors alongside numismatists.
