The western capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) has no native population in Cuba — this coin belongs to a long-running Cuban wildlife series that frequently featured European and globally distributed fauna rather than strictly endemic species. Cuba's silver commemorative program from the 1990s onward was produced almost entirely for the collector export market, with negligible domestic circulation, making these pieces functionally a foreign-exchange instrument dressed as coinage.
