| 背面描述 | The central field features a boldly rendered polychrome depiction of Turnera ulmifolia, the Caribbean buttercup, with two fully open five-petalled flowers in vivid yellow enamel and red-accented stamens, accompanied by serrated green leaves filling the field. The floral composition is applied in coloured enamel over a proof silver surface, creating a striking contrast against the mirror background. The arcing legend FLORA DEL CARIBE is inscribed along the upper periphery in raised relief. The scientific name Turnera ulmifolia appears in italic script along the lower rim, and the date 1997 is positioned to the lower right of the floral spray. |

Issued under Cuba's state minting enterprise during the Special Period — the prolonged economic crisis that followed the Soviet collapse — this coin belongs to a flora series that served as a hard-currency earner for a government with almost no foreign exchange reserves. The pieces were sold abroad, almost never circulating domestically. Turnera ulmifolia, the yellow alder, grows widely across the Caribbean and was already established in Cuban botanical documentation long before this issue.
