Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field: a golden eagle, wings fully spread, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, grasping a serpent in its beak and right talon. The device is flanked at the base by a garland of oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters. The frosted relief of the eagle and surrounding botanical elements contrasts sharply with the polished mirror field, a hallmark of the proof striking technique.
