| Reverse description | The reverse features a detailed relief depiction of the passenger-cargo vessel Rio Bravo shown underway on open water, with rigging and superstructure rendered in fine detail. In the background, the skyline of Hamburg with its distinctive church spire is visible above the waterline. The vessel name RIO BRAVO is inscribed in a curved legend along the upper portion of the field, while HAMBURGO-HABANA appears along the lower arc, and the year 1998 is placed in the exergue below the ship. |

| Additional information |
Río Bravo was a 1998 Cuban-Spanish co-production directed by Juan Antonio Bardem, released as part of Cuba's sustained effort through the late 1990s to maintain a film industry despite severe post-Soviet economic contraction. The coin was issued under the same period of "Special Period" austerity that pushed the Banco Central toward foreign-currency collector programs as a hard-currency revenue stream — silver proof issues like this one were never intended for domestic circulation.
