Additional information

Río Bravo was a 1998 Cuban-Spanish co-production directed by Juan Antonio Bardem, released as part of Cuba's sustained effort through the late 1990s to maintain a film industry despite severe post-Soviet economic contraction. The coin was issued under the same period of "Special Period" austerity that pushed the Banco Central toward foreign-currency collector programs as a hard-currency revenue stream — silver proof issues like this one were never intended for domestic circulation.
