Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field: an eagle displayed sinister, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky islet, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and right talon. The eagle's wings are raised and its plumage is rendered in fine detail. The device is encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The circumferential legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs across the upper field in bold raised lettering.
