The legend ESTADO DE PUEBLA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by the mintmark Mo to the left and the date 2004 to the right at mid-field. The denomination $10 appears in the lower exergue. This piece belongs to a long-running Mexican Mint series celebrating the country's states, with Puebla's issue highlighting one of the most historically loaded cities in the republic — site of the May 5, 1862 Battle of Puebla, in which Mexican forces under Ignacio Zaragoza repelled a French imperial army widely considered superior on paper. The victory was short-lived; French forces returned the following year and took the city, renaming it Zaragoza in a pointed act of mockery toward the general who had beaten them.
