Guatemala's monetary system underwent significant restructuring in the 1890s as the country moved to align its coinage with regional Latin American standards. This pattern was struck in 1894 during that transitional period, almost certainly produced at a foreign mint for presentation or approval purposes — Guatemalan patterns of this era were frequently contracted out to U.S. or European facilities rather than struck domestically.
KM#Pn29 saw no regular issue follow it. The design or denomination was rejected, leaving pattern survivors as the only physical record of a denomination that never circulated.
