Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupies the central field, depicting an eagle displayed facing, perched upon a cactus growing from a rocky island, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The eagle is encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The circumferential legend 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS' arcs across the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The design is rendered in a crisp, slightly stylised engraving consistent with the mid-twentieth-century Mexican coinage tradition.
