Uruguay's 1969 pattern issues were produced during a period of acute monetary instability — inflation was eroding the peso so badly that the government would ultimately replace the entire currency with the nuevo peso in 1975, at a rate of 1,000 to one. Patterns from this transitional stretch are particularly inconsistent in their survival, as many were held by mint officials or destroyed outright when the denomination structure they anticipated was abandoned.

KM#Pn91 is among a cluster of silver patterns from that year that never advanced to circulation strikes.
