Colombia's Banco de la República was established in 1923 under the direct influence of the Kemmerer Mission — the U.S. financial advisory team led by Edwin Kemmerer that restructured monetary systems across five South American nations during that decade. The "Pesos Oro" denomination was a deliberate legal construct, tying the currency to a gold standard parity rather than simply naming a unit of account. Colombia abandoned that parity during the global crisis of 1931, making pre-Depression issues like this one a short-lived first chapter.
