| Obverse description | The obverse displays the Mexican national coat of arms in high relief at the center of the heptagonal field: a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The device is framed below by a wreath of oak and laurel branches. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin capital letters. The coin exhibits characteristic toning with a dark patina over the copper-nickel planchet, consistent with its status as an obverse trial strike (tuerca). |
