The Nuestra Señora del Carmen series was issued as part of a broader Dominican commemorative program in the late 1990s and early 2000s honoring patron saints associated with specific regions and parishes across the island. These small-format silver pieces circulated primarily as collector issues rather than in everyday commerce, and survival in pristine condition is accordingly high relative to their modest mintages.
