10 Pesos Morelos - Silver Proof Issue

This piece belongs to Mexico's long-running commemorative series honoring figures of the Independence movement, issued through the early 2000s as the mint expanded its collector-focused silver program. José María Morelos y Pavón, the insurgent priest who assumed military command after Hidalgo's execution in 1811, led the most tactically coherent phase of the independence struggle before his own capture and execution in 1815.

Proof strikes in this series were produced at the Casa de Moneda's Mexico City facility, which has operated continuously since 1535 — the oldest mint in the Western Hemisphere.
