The Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay's long-running relationship with Thomas De La Rue stretched across several series, and this note illustrates the institutional conservatism of that arrangement — the authorizing legislation cited on the face dates from January 1939, yet the note itself was printed and issued nearly a decade later. Uruguay maintained this practice of anchoring notes to their enabling law rather than their print date, which makes dating individual examples by face alone genuinely unreliable without reference to serial number ranges.
P#37 is the final type in this 1939-law series before BROU transitioned to revised designs in the early 1950s.
