备注

The La Demajagua series — named for the sugar mill in Oriente Province where Carlos Manuel de Céspedes freed his slaves and rang the bell signaling the start of the Ten Years' War in 1868 — was issued in the final years of the Batista government. The Banco Nacional had been reconstituted only in 1950, replacing the currency board arrangement that had pegged Cuban pesos to U.S. dollars at par for decades.

De La Rue produced the series to a high technical standard. Notes from the later pressings, closer to 1960, were entering circulation just as the revolutionary government was consolidating control — some bear the transition between two very different Cuban states in the same wallet.
