Mô tả mặt sau A facing portrait bust of King Ferdinand II of Spain dominates the central field, rendered in high relief in a formal regal style. His name, rendered in Latin form, appears as a legend below the effigy. The upper and right periphery bear inscriptions commemorating the fifth centenary of the discovery of America and the date 1492, alongside the issue year 1990. A mintmark and issue designation are placed to the right of the portrait. A rope border frames the entire design close to the rim.

Thông tin bổ sung

Cuba's hard-currency commemorative program of the late 1980s and early 1990s was driven almost entirely by foreign exchange need rather than numismatic tradition — these pieces were minted for export sale, not domestic circulation, at a time when the post-Soviet economic collapse was beginning to bite Havana's finances severely. Spain was a natural subject: the 1992 quincentenary of Columbus's first voyage generated an entire wave of issues across the Caribbean and Latin America, and Cuban state mint output swelled accordingly.

The Ferdinand commemoratives from this program were struck in limited proof quantities and distributed almost exclusively through European and North American coin dealers.
