Additional information

The International Year of the Child designation on this issue refers to the UN initiative launched in 1979 — the tenth anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child — making the 1982 strike a belated commemorative rather than a timely one. The Dominican Republic issued several silver commemoratives through this period as hard-currency earners, with pieces more likely to have ended up in collector sets than in domestic circulation.
