Beschrijving voorzijde The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a golden eagle perched in profile upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and talons. The eagle is rendered in high relief with finely detailed feathering, its wings partially spread. A wreath of oak and laurel branches, tied at the base with a ribbon, frames the lower portion of the device. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin capital letters against a mirror-polished proof field.

Aanvullende informatie

Part of Mexico's long-running "Numismatic Heritage" series honoring the country's historic mints, this issue spotlights Guanajuato — one of the most productive silver-producing regions in the world during the colonial period. At its peak in the late eighteenth century, the Guanajuato mines supplied an estimated one-third of the world's silver output, and the city's mint, established in 1812, processed enormous quantities of that metal into coin.

KM#709 is one of dozens of issues in the series released across multiple years, each tied to a different state or mint city. The Guanajuato installment draws directly from that colonial mining identity.
