| 备注 |
The Banco del Paraguay was chartered in 1871 with mixed Paraguayan and foreign capital, established in the devastated aftermath of the War of the Triple Alliance, which had by 1870 killed a substantial majority of Paraguay's male population and left the national economy in ruins. This note dates from over a decade into that reconstruction period, when the bank held a de facto monopoly on paper currency issuance in the country.
ABNC's involvement was typical for Latin American commercial banks of the period seeking credibility through a recognizable international printer. The "Fuertes" designation — strong pesos — distinguished these from devalued earlier emissions, though the distinction grew increasingly nominal as the decade progressed.
