| Reverse description | The reverse presents a richly detailed commemorative scene marking the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Isla del Evangelista. In the left field, a parrot perches on a tropical branch, rendered in fine relief. To the right, a fully rigged Spanish caravel under sail navigates turbulent seas. In the lower foreground, a partially submerged treasure chest rests among the waves, evoking the age of exploration. The date '1994' and a mint mark appear in the lower left field. The curved legend '500 AÑOS del DESCUBRIMIENTO' arcs along the upper rim, while 'de La ISLA del EVANGELISTA' is inscribed along the lower arc. |

| Additional information |
Isla del Evangelista — now Isla de la Juventud — was sighted by Columbus in 1494 during his second voyage and later served as a holding point for pirates operating in the western Caribbean. Cuba renamed it in 1978, a politically motivated rebranding tied to the island's role as a showcase for revolutionary youth education programs.
