A large bicolour denominational numeral '10' in intaglio sits to the left of the portrait, above the legend DIEZ PESOS CONVERTIBLES DE CURSO LEGAL, with two facsimile signatures below captioned VICEPRESIDENTE and PRESIDENTE respectively. This note belongs to the first peso convertible series issued after Argentina's Convertibility Law of April 1991, which pegged the peso 1:1 to the U.S. dollar and explicitly prohibited the central bank from printing money beyond its hard currency reserves. The design series was Casa de Moneda's first major domestic production run under those constraints — the printing house could no longer expand supply on political demand alone.
Pick 342 ran across a notably long window for a first issue, surviving intact through nearly the entire convertibility period before the peso's catastrophic collapse in late 2001 finally forced a redesign and, eventually, the end of the peg itself.
