Reverse description A brilliantly coloured effigy of a swallowtail butterfly (Papilio sp.) is depicted in three-quarter view, its wings partially spread to reveal vivid yellow and deep red-brown patterning with characteristic scalloped hindwing margins, rendered in polychrome enamel against a sky-blue circular field. The butterfly is shown alighting upon a flowering branch bearing clusters of red blossoms with green foliage, which extends across the lower portion of the coin. The series legend FAUNA DEL CARIBE arcs along the upper periphery of the outer black field, while the genus name PAPILIO appears as a straight legend at the base. The date 1996 is inscribed in the right field beside the butterfly.
