Issued as part of a Dominican commemorative series documenting the country's colonial religious architecture, this piece honors the Capilla de San Andrés, one of the earliest Christian chapels constructed in the Americas. The chapel dates to the sixteenth century and stands in the Cibao region, its survival through centuries of earthquakes, hurricanes, and political upheaval making it an unusually durable remnant of early Spanish colonial presence on Hispaniola.
