| Additional information |
Issued as part of the Dominican Republic's millennial commemorative program, this piece honors the Capilla de los Remedios in Santo Domingo — one of the oldest surviving Christian chapels in the Western Hemisphere, dating to the early sixteenth century and originally built to serve the private devotions of the Dávila family on their colonial estate. The chapel survived centuries of earthquakes, pirate raids, and urban encroachment that destroyed far more prominent structures around it.
The .9999 fineness places it above the standard .999 threshold — a deliberate specification for collector-grade bullion coinage of this period.
