Banco del Ñuble was one of several provincial Chilean banks authorized under the 1860 Ley de Bancos, issuing its own notes backed by gold deposits held with the government. The ABNC printed for dozens of Latin American provincial issuers during this period, and the Ñuble notes share plate stock and border work with other Chilean provincial series of the same decade — distinguishing them by issuer rather than design family is the real collector challenge here.
The bank lost its right of issue following Chile's 1898 banking reforms, which consolidated note-issuing authority and forced redemption of all outstanding provincial paper.
