The Banco de Pamplona was one of Colombia's short-lived provincial banks operating under the 1871 banking law, which briefly allowed regional institutions to issue their own currency before the Banco Nacional moved to consolidate note issuance in the 1880s. By 1884, that consolidation was already underway, making this a late emission from a bank operating under mounting regulatory pressure.
Bradbury Wilkinson handled the plate work in London, as they did for numerous Latin American provincial issuers who lacked domestic printing infrastructure capable of producing secure banknotes.
