备注

Banco de D. Matte y Cía. was one of several private Chilean banks authorized to issue currency under the 1860 banking law, which permitted commercial institutions to print their own notes backed by metallic reserves. The Matte family's banking interests were deeply entangled with nitrate and mercantile capital in the north, and notes like this one circulated in a commercial environment where private bank paper was often trusted more readily than government scrip.

ABNC's involvement was typical of Chilean private banking issues of this period — Santiago's merchant banks routinely contracted New York engravers rather than European houses. The series was short-lived; Chile's 1898 monetary reforms extinguished most surviving private bank circulation rights.
