Obverse description The obverse displays the Mexican national arms in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The central device depicts a Mexican golden eagle, wings spread and facing left, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, grasping a serpent in its beak and talon. The cactus and rocky base are flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied together at the base with a ribbon. The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals.
