Obverse description The national coat of arms of Mexico occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent clutched in its beak and talons. The eagle is shown in profile facing left, with wings displayed and detailed feather work rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. A wreath of oak and laurel branches, tied at the base with a ribbon, frames the lower portion of the device. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arches along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering.
