正面描述 The obverse carries a central vignette of a dog's head within an oval frame, flanked by the large denomination numeral '5' on both sides against a yellow-ochre guilloche underprint. To the lower left, a military portrait bust of a uniformed officer is rendered in fine intaglio engraving, while to the right a classical allegorical female figure is seated. 备注

Banco de Montenegro i Ca. was one of several private Colombian banks of issue that operated under the 1880s banking legislation permitting provincial commercial banks to print their own currency. The American Bank Note Company handled the printing for a significant number of these institutions, producing plates that were often shared or adapted across multiple clients — which is why some ABNC-printed Colombian private bank notes bear a family resemblance that has nothing to do with institutional relationship.

The "i Ca." suffix indicates a partnership structure rather than a formally incorporated bank, a common arrangement in late nineteenth-century Colombian commercial practice. Records for this issuer are thin, which makes surviving examples disproportionately useful to researchers reconstructing the private banking period before Colombia's 1923 monetary reforms centralized issue under the Banco de la República.
