The Negros Emergency Currency Board was one of several provincial bodies that issued guerrilla currency in the Philippines during the Japanese occupation. These notes were produced under direct threat — Japanese forces actively sought out and destroyed guerrilla printing operations, and possession of this currency could mean execution. The Negros issues were backed, at least nominally, by the provincial government's remaining assets and the promise of post-liberation redemption by the United States.
Redemption did eventually occur. After liberation, the U.S. Army and the Philippine Commonwealth honored most recognized guerrilla issues, though claimants had to prove authenticity against a flood of postwar forgeries and opportunistic backdated printings.
