| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is executed in brown tones within a horizontal guilloche border frame, with THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK in large serif letterpress at the top. The central field carries the denomination TEN PESOS in two registers, flanked by ornamental floral and foliate cornerpieces, while two vertical black cancellation bars cross the design with a partially visible red overprint, consistent with trial cancellation procedure. |

The Philippine National Bank was established in 1916 partly to finance the sugar industry and reduce Filipino dependence on foreign commercial banks — this 1917 issue came in the bank's first full year of operation. The American Bank Note Company had long handled Philippine currency work under American colonial administration, and the relationship continued seamlessly into the new national bank's early issues.
P#43A is distinguished from the closely related P#43 by its signature combination, a detail that trips up collectors who overlook the underprint variations within this series.
