The Banco Nacional de la República de Colombia had a troubled existence — Congress repeatedly voted to liquidate it, and it was finally dissolved in 1894, leaving a final series of notes to circulate well into the following years under emergency authorization. This 10 Pesos issue from 1895 falls into that awkward terminal phase, printed by ABNC in New York against a backdrop of institutional collapse rather than normal banking operations.
Colombia's devastating Thousand Days War was still five years off, but the monetary instability that helped cause it was already visible in issues like this one.
