| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse is oriented horizontally and divided into two sections: a plain left stub with two panels each bearing the bank's name and location (BANCO CONSTRUCTOR HIPOTECARIO / SANTIAGO) with space for serial numbers, and a richly engraved main note to the right. The central vignette presents a classical neoclassical building facade, flanked on the left by a portrait of a young woman in three-quarter view and on the right by the Chilean coat of arms supported by a condor and a huemul. The denomination DIEZ PESOS appears in a bold guilloche band at center, with SERIE A indicated in the upper corners and the text Pagará al Portador a la vista en Santiago inscribed in the upper body; a red SPECIMEN overprint and cancellation punch holes are present on this example. |

Banco Constructor Hipotecario was a Argentine mortgage bank operating under the wave of private banking expansion that preceded the catastrophic Baring Crisis of 1890. By 1894, most of the private banks that had fueled that speculative boom were already dead or restructured — the fact that Constructor Hipotecario was still issuing paper this late in the decade is itself worth noting.
Waterlow & Sons printed for dozens of Latin American institutions during this period, and the S-prefix Pick reference confirms private bank status rather than a national treasury issue.
