At upper centre, the bank title 'El Banco de la Unión' is set within an ornate frame, with 'Bogotá, Enero 1º de 1883' and series/number fields to the right. A classical allegorical female portrait vignette occupies the lower left, while the right portion carries a pastoral rural scene with a mounted horseman, cattle, and dogs rendered in fine line engraving. Opmerkingen

Banco de la Unión was a short-lived Colombian commercial bank established under the banking reforms of the early 1880s, operating before the Regeneration-era monetary centralization that eventually wiped out the free-banking period entirely. The ABNC printed for dozens of Latin American institutions simultaneously during this decade, often sharing plate elements across clients — worth examining whether any vignette components here recur in contemporaneous issues from other Colombian banks of the same period.

The bank collapsed well before the Banco de la República's 1923 consolidation, meaning circulated survivors from this 1883 issue had a very narrow window of legitimate use.
