Pobla de Segur is a small town in the Catalan Pyrenees, and its wartime municipal scrip belongs to the sprawling ecosystem of emergency local currency that proliferated across Republican-controlled Catalonia during the Civil War. By 1938, the collapse of confidence in official Republican currency and severe coin shortages had pushed hundreds of municipalities — including ones far smaller than Pobla de Segur — into printing their own paper. The Generalitat officially sanctioned local issues from 1936, but oversight was loose and designs were produced under genuinely difficult wartime conditions.
Turró catalogs well over two thousand such emissions. That this one rates a dedicated entry at #1924 speaks to how thoroughly documented the series has become, largely through the work of Catalan collectors who rescued examples before they were discarded after the Nationalist victory made them worthless.
