Additional information

The original 10 Perpera was struck in 1910 to mark both Nikola I's fiftieth year of rule and his simultaneous proclamation of Montenegro as a Kingdom — two events staged on the same day as a deliberate political act. Montenegro was the last Balkan state to make that transition, and Nikola's timing was calculated to extract maximum diplomatic leverage from the major powers before the coming Balkan Wars reshaped the region entirely. The perpera itself had only been introduced in 1906, giving Montenegro one of the shortest-lived national currency systems in European history before Yugoslav unification absorbed it in 1918.

This 2010 brass restrike commemorates the centennial of that declaration. Catalogued under Mandic To#CG20.1.
