Additional information

Guernsey's wren coinage traces back to the decimalization issue of 1971, when the island introduced its own distinct coinage separate from Jersey and independent of any obligation to mirror British designs. The wren denomination survived successive Elizabeth II portrait updates across five decades — an unusually long run for a regional definitive. By 2021, nickel plated steel had long replaced the cupro-nickel of earlier strikes, a cost-driven shift the Royal Mint had itself adopted for UK coinage years prior.
