| 背面描述 | The reverse features a bold, serif capital letter 'W' rendered in an outlined, three-dimensional typographic style, set centrally against a finely detailed spider's web that fills the entire field from rim to rim. The web radiates outward in concentric arcs connected by radial strands, evoking the structure of the World Wide Web invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. The design, created by the Royal Mint team, occupies the full coin surface with no additional legend or exergue, allowing the single letter and web motif to serve as the sole compositional elements. |

Part of the Royal Mint's "Great British Alphabet" series, this piece assigned a letter to each of 26 cultural and historical subjects — a straightforward commemorative conceit that nonetheless produced one of the more historically pointed entries in the set. The "W" attribution honors Tim Berners-Lee's invention of the World Wide Web at CERN in 1989, a British contribution to global infrastructure that remains, unusually for a commemorative subject, actively controversial in its social consequences.
