Reverse description The reverse depicts a section of the Royal Shield of Arms designed by Matthew Dent, presenting the two upper quarters of the shield showing three golden lions passant guardant — the arms of England — arranged in pale within a beaded inner border. This design represents one segment of the jigsaw-style Royal Arms series introduced in 2008, in which the ten circulating coins collectively form the complete shield. The denomination TEN PENCE is inscribed in capital letters along the upper arc of the field, with the designer's initials MD appearing discreetly within the design.
