Guernsey's colourised wildlife decimal series has issued lapwing designs as part of a broader programme celebrating species native to or associated with the Bailiwick. The lapwing — once abundant across British and Channel Island farmland — has declined sharply since the mid-twentieth century, with UK breeding populations down roughly 80% since the 1960s due to agricultural intensification. Guernsey's own breeding population is effectively extinct as a regular nesting species.
