The Glenfinnan Viaduct was built between 1897 and 1901 by contractor Robert McAlpine, whose enthusiastic use of mass concrete on the project earned him the nickname "Concrete Bob." The West Highland Line it carries remains operational, and the viaduct's association with the Harry Potter film series has made it one of the most photographed railway structures in Britain — a fact that almost certainly drove its selection for this Isle of Man issue.
The Isle of Man has no geographic or historical connection to the viaduct, which sits firmly in Inverness-shire, Scotland. The inclusion reflects the island's long-standing practice of issuing coins with subjects chosen for collector appeal rather than territorial relevance.
